Comment on Don’t put your trust in the timing of the end of the world. Put your trust in Christ. by Bruce Rockwell

I bought THE RAPTURE PLOT (the book Jon Edwards mentioned above) and it simply drowns us with documentation on exactly how and when and where the first separation between the catching up and the parousia took place. Before 1830 all Christian theology textbooks tied together both aspects and declared that the catching up (rapture) was just one of the aspects of the final second coming to earth. But I had better not tell you how and by whom credit for the pretrib rapture belief was quietly stolen from the Irvingites and given falsely 60 years later to Darby after his death - truly the “mother of all revisionisms”! This book is a suspenseful cliffhanger that will force you to refill your supply of tranquilizers and I won’t ruin your fun by revealing who-done-it. And to think that this is nonfiction and really happened and was so successfully covered up that absolutely no other church historian had even an inkling or hint of this monstrous thievery! Happy reading. Bruce

I’ve added a link to my blogroll comparing and contrasting the Bible to the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church. You can access it at the link above or by clicking here.

Endtimespropheticwords:
Nowhere am I saying in any way that I am not concerned about doctrine. What I am saying is, first, here’s an issue that could really send people into a panic if they believe the end of the world is imminent, and I am pointing them first and foremost to faith in Christ as the only way to both survive these times spiritually and to rise out of the panic around them as they put their trust only in Christ. Second, I have clearly stated what I believe, so there should be absolutely no confusion in that regard. Third, as I stated above, I am about to add a section contrasting the official Catechism of the Catholic Church with what the Bible actually says. And since I’m pointing people to what the Bible actually says about who Jesus is and how we can have our sins forgiven, rather than any human tradition or “popular” belief, I don’t see how there should be any confusion at all.

The difficulty in these times (if you are not so concerned about end time doctrine) is that you lead people to ‘another Jesus’ (eg antichrist) in a false revival in a false church. They will honestly believe they are ‘christians’ too.

To endtimespropheticwords:
I agree that there are serious doctrinal issues in the RCC, and I am about to add a section on here spelling out the differences between the Catechism of the RCC and the Bible. But my first concern with regard to St. Malachy’s prophecies isn’t so much one regarding the prophecies’ source, historicity or Biblical soundness. My first concern is quite practical — I’m willing to bet that a lot of people will start acting in a very dangerous and irrational manner if those who believe these prophecies start garnering more and more attention and the hysteria starts to spread. My first concern is whether people will start freaking out, or whether they will instead turn to a relationship with Christ to help them endure whatever is to come. The first task is to get people’s attention and draw them into a conversation about trusting Christ no matter what — and only after they’re stepping back, taking a deep breath and taking time to consider the “what now?” if the apocalypse could be near. It’s impossible to get into meaningful conversations about trusting Christ, much less about correct doctrine, if the other person is in panic mode. The intent of this blog is to put a damper on the panic as early as possible and to get people to think about what might happen and what it all might mean, and to point them to Christ Himself, and a personal relationship with Him. And when they’ve taken a deep breath and are in a position more conducive to calmer conversation, I’ll be ready to address the doctrinal issues and then go from there.

As for the rapture being post-trib, you and I are on the same page. Check out PostTribRapture.com when you get a chance. :)

To Gar:
I think there are a few different perspectives in the pre-trib camp, and not all who consider themselves pre-tribbers are as hardened in their views: There are those who are fervently hoping that the rapture will be pre-trib but who are hedging their bets just in case; there are those who are ready to exit at any time and who may be following the “Left Behind” model of leaving messages for those who are left behind to turn to Christ while they still can; and there are those who are stuck on the notion that Israel (the government) can do no wrong, and so we’re going to do all we can to promote Israel (the government) to the detriment and exclusion of Christ’s followers who are living in Gaza, the West Bank and elsewhere. This third model is the most destructive and its adherents are probably among the hardest to persuade in any manner about the spiritual consequences of their earthly actions in trying to bring about “the end”–as if it was all up to us and not up to God. I’m more inclined to focus on persuading those who are on the fence doctrinally and who are open to the notion that they might not be right on the timing of the rapture, and for those who are willing to at least consider that they might be wrong about a pre-trib rapture, I want them to prepare spiritually not only for their own sake, but also so the Lord can use them to serve others in the midst of whatever will happen.

All the facts and logic in the world won’t phase a “pre-tribber”. They can get around just about everything by claiming that the rapture is actually a secret event. You’ll only know it if you’re in it.

Then they return to earth with the Messiah when he comes at the last trump at the second coming. (Or has this now actually become the third coming).

It’s amazing how so many otherwise knowledgable bible students can’t get to the truth about the simple concept of “timing”. It’s a parallel to the Trinity idea where a concept that already existed from way back is goosed around to fit into the world of “christianity”.

St Malachy was Roman Catholic. He said that these succession of 112 popes would be good and godly, and he advocated papal succession and the Vatican. He worked tirelessly to get Ireland under the control of Rome. If he were a true prophet of God he would have spoken up about the spiritual adultery within the church of Rome, and the pope’s numeous blasphemous titles as well as some of the other corruption and problems.

One therefore has to question the ’spirit’ behind his prophecy. Now its authenticity has been cast in doubt by scholars who believe it to be from a later date and not penned by St Malachy, and there is also the possibility that the rather vague predictions are made to fit the popes either through interpretation or finding a pope who does match the description. But even if it were genuine and Malachy were its author, and nobody is tampering with events to make it fit, it still does not make Malachy a true prophet.

A true prophet’s predictions not just come true, but also they do not contradict with scripture or scriptural principles. Scripture clearly shows the RC church and its popes are evil and antichrist, and this has been proven to be the case historically. The RC church/Vatican sits on the seven hills of Rome as even Malachy admits, and is the adulterous whore in Revelation that is corrupt, drinks the blood of martyrs and is spiritually adulterous (veneration of pope, saints and Mary) and glitters with riches through ill gotten means and is dressed in papal colours. ‘Mystery Babylon’ Rome attempts to darken the minds of the common man through Latin masses and other mysteries, so it can promote its work based religion and promote antichrist (anti = in place of, not against) papal and priestly mediation between man and God and promote blind trust and ignorance. The Vatican has not just been politically corrupt and persecuted the true saints in the Dark and Middle Ages, but in this century too such as Nazi Germany and in Mussolin’s Italy. Rome is evil! The pope claims a throne on earth only God should have. The RC church is truly the counterfeit bride for the antichrist.

Re the final pope - Peter the II or Petrus Romanus - the next one apparently after Benedict, Malachy says - “During the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church, the seat will be occupied by Peter of Rome, who will feed his sheep in many tribulations; and when these things are finished, the seven-hilled city will be destroyed, and the terrible Judge will judge his people. The End.”

‘During the final persecution of the Holy Roman Church’ - historically the RC church has been the presecutor not the persecutee, and it still is. Malachy not just confirms papal authority in his false prophecy but he also denies the persecution of the true saints (see the Foxes book of Martyrs among others). This is surely an antichrist spirit.

I note Malachy does not mention the (final) Antichrist! The RC whore rides the beast in the Book of Revelation. The (final) Antichrist, the man of lawlessness, is seen as a type of Nero Caesar, a new Roman emperor in the Book of Revelation. To be the new Roman emperor, this Antichrist will have to be in bed with the RC church, if not be the actual pope himself! However Malachy says Peter II ‘will feed his sheep in many tribulations’ - this opens up the church to be fed by Rome and become compromised in ecumenicism and worse still to accept the antichrist and be led by him.

Beware of Malachy’s prophecy. It is dangerous indeed and comes from the antichrist.

You say don’t trust in end time prophecies. I say you can put your complete trust in the ones in scripture. Christ gave us them so we could be aware of our times and not fall asleep. He made sure his disciples understood them and made it very clear to them so they would not accept the antichrist. It is not enough to keep an open mind on things as you can still be led into deception if you are unclear to what scripture teaches as to the end times. Scripture is absolutely post-trib as to the rapture. There is no middle ground. If you believe it may be happen pre-trib or mid-trib you not just are not prepared for persecution etc, but you also may accept the antichrist as Christ.

Amen and Bravo! You are totally scriptural and LaHaye isn’t! I found a couple Google articles that would also say “Amen” to you: “Pretrib Rapture Diehards” and “Famous Rapture Watchers.” BTW, have you seen MacPherson’s huge volume on pre-trib rapture history entitled “The Rapture Plot”? It is being sold by Armageddon Books and is one book that devious pre-trib leaders simply cannot stand! Thanks for your wonderful and much needed blog. Jon

If the end of the world is near, are you going to trust Christ no matter what?
