Government to Raise Food Commodities Prior to Ramadan

The government, represented in the holding company for food industries, has decided to increase prices of food commodities prior to the month of Ramadan. The increases, which started on August 18, have included prices of free packed or non packed sugar, meat, fish, poultry and legume.

Egypt urges end to Israel threats

Egypt has urged Israel to stop making threats against Lebanon, its foreign minister said on a visit to Beirut.

Ahmed Abul Gheit has been holding talks with Lebanese leaders about the rising tensions with Israel.

Israel’s prime minister warned last week that his country would hit all of Lebanon harder than in the 2006 war if Hezbollah guerrillas attacked again.

Terror suspects linked to threat against Brown

Three men arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences have been linked to an investigation into threats to kill Gordon Brown, it emerged last night.

The suspects were detained on August 14 in a joint operation between Lancashire Police and the Greater Manchester police counter-terrorism unit.

Christians in danger in Assiut

To Whom It May Concern:

Group of Muslims attacked their Christians neighbors, took over their houses, lands, and kicked some of them out. The area is by Awana village, Sahel Saleem, Assiut governorate. Large group of houses located on both sides of a water stream. Each person owns the land behind his house. Each piece of land is between 2 to 5 acres. The Muslim group threaten to kill their Christian neighbors if they don’t leave their houses. They took some of cows and sheep. Some of people locked their doors, but they can’t water their animals nor they can get their needs and some left their homes because they are being afraid to be killed. Even old sick women were kicked away.

The Egyptian Medical Association, through its spokesman on August 18, denied that a bill in the Egyptian parliament would discriminate between Christians and Muslims by prohibiting organ transplants between members of the two faiths. The Association supports the controversial measure. “This is all to protect poor Muslims from rich Christians who buy their organs and vice versa,” explained Hamdi Al Sayed — the director of the Medical Association. Under the bill, physicians who violate the proposed law would face retribution.
